कुछ तो लोग कहेंगे
Kuch to log kahenge

"Log kya kahenge" kept our parents quiet for a generation. It doesn't have to keep us quiet too.

A warm embrace between family members
Why this exists

A question worth keeping alive

In August 2026, a family in a Massachusetts town not unlike many of ours lost two of their own — a mother and her younger son — in a way that made national news for a day and then faded everywhere except inside our community. Here, the conversation kept going.

People started asking, out loud, whether the fear of being judged had gotten in the way of a family finding help before it was too late. Nobody has a clean answer. But the question is worth keeping alive, and it shouldn't take a tragedy for us to ask it.

This site is not a crisis service on its own, and it doesn't have all the answers either. It's a place to say the thing you've been rehearsing in your head, and to find someone who can actually help.

What we tell ourselves

These lines have kept generations of families quiet. None of them hold up.

Beta, log kya kahenge.

People will say something regardless. Kuch to log kahenge — so let it be that you got help, not that you didn't.

We don't air family problems.

A therapist isn't the neighborhood aunty. What's said in that room stays in that room, by law.

He'll grow out of it.

Some things do pass on their own. Withdrawal, hopelessness, and sudden personality changes are worth a professional opinion, not a guess.

A good Indian family doesn't need therapy.

A good family notices when someone is struggling and does something about it. That's the whole definition.

Starting the conversation

You don't need the right words. You need to start before you have them.

Signs worth paying attention to

  • Pulling away from friends, family, or things they used to enjoy
  • A sharp change in sleep, appetite, or grades
  • Talking about being a burden, or that things won't get better
  • "He seems different lately" and you can't quite say why

How to open it up

  • Ask, then stay quiet long enough for a real answer
  • Bring in a professional early, not as a last resort
  • Take every mention of hopelessness seriously, every time
